The MOST important thing you can do is manage your BRAND and your PORTFOLIO of what you've worked on and what you think/feel about different products, etc. A hiring manager wants to know more than just your experience - they want to know how YOU approach products and the making of beautiful things.
To get started, read this blog post by Cindy Alvarez, PM at Yammer, on why you as a PM should start a blog. Then re-read this excellent post by Ken Norton, PM for Google Latitude, on how he (and other managers) hire product managers.
And now.... network. Find other PMs , network, geek out, go to conferences, have coffee... whatever you need to do to learn how other PMs think and view the world around them. If you can find a mentor, then all the better for you!
